MINI did a great thing when they added the USB input under the toggles in the 2008 and newer MINIs. First, it allows a way to play music from your iPod through the stereo. Second, it allows for charging, AND it can even pull the meta data from the iPod so you can view it on the radio interface. Having this cable will allow to use your iPod while charging it.
Please note, meta data on the radio display has been spotty at best as some iPods will send that info while others do not. Some software updates help with this, but we cannot know which one(s) work 100% and which do not. At the VERY least, you will be able to listen to the content on your iPod through your radio...it's the artist name, track name, etc that is not always 100% pull through.
Please note: This cable is for the new lightning (iPhone 5, 6, etc) Apple products. However, we also offer the old Apple 16-pin connection cable as well.
We have also seen that some versions of the iPhone and iPad will NOT charge if they require 10 volts to charges as this only allows 5 volts to pass.
Notice: With Apple's frequent updates, this cable may or may not be recognized or supported by your device. If you find that your device does not work with this cable, feel free to return it for a refund of the purchase price. This cable adapter does not work with the iPhone7 and newer.

Love this cable!! It allows me to listen to everything on my phone through my stereo!! My only frustration is that the cable is about an inch too short :(
Advantages: Can use your smartphone with your stereo system.
Disadvantages: Short!!

This customer purchased the item at our site.
I bought this cable for my 2011 S Convertible. Plugged it all in - nothing. The USB indicator on the stereo says it's not the correct USB device. So, I took a DOS formatted USB drive, put music on it, put it in the USB hole and viola - music. I could see the song titles, etc. just like the book says. Being the geek I am, I reformatted the same USB disk to MAC OS Extended, added music and nothing. Car does not recognize the USB. After searching through Mini forums, I have come to the conclusion that the car will only play a DOS formatted USB disk - which the iPhone is NOT. I would like to hear if anyone is having success with this cable/iPhone combo...
Advantages: Well built cable. Charges phone fine. Mini plug works great.
Disadvantages: Does not seem to work with MAC OS formatted disks.
