While you can technically get Yakima and Thule and other aftermarket racks on the MINI, they just look out of place. Trust me, I have one and just loathe looking at it. The MINI factory rack base fits perfect and is a exponentially better looking part, especially when installed. Once you have this base rack you add any factory MINI accessory like bike racks, etc. as well as many attachments from Thule and Yakima (if a 'universal fit" clamping style attachment). The Gen 1 MINI rack (for 02-06 hatchbacks) requires drilling into the roof to gain access to the pre-installed attachment points which are built and part of the manufacturing process. The roof rack can then be attached using the hardware kit that we offer. Once the hardware kit is installed the roof rack can be easily be taken on and off with simple tools. 4 color coded caps are supplied to cover the hardware when the rack is NOT in place.

MINI learned their lesson after hundreds (if not quadbillions) of complaints about the insane installation process and the 'pick me off the floor' price tag and changed it for the Gen 2 rack. The Gen 2 MINI (starting with the 2007 Hatchback) attaches to the rain gutters (but with a more substantial connection) like the aftermarket racks but the MINI feet are better integrated and carry similar styling cues as the car itself for a unified appearance.

Both racks are easily removable (the Gen 1 rack comes with color matched covers for the mounting hardware that is flush mounted to the roof). FYI, the accessories are the same from Gen 1 to Gen 2, but as described the base rack is completely different.

There are two racks available for the Clubman. One connects to the rain gutters as shown and the other attaches to the optional roof rack rails which run the length of the roof and would have been an additional option purchased with the car. Priced individually
