If you're planning on doing control arm bushings and want to be prepared and ready to go, this is what you'll need to make the job run smoothly. Once you've got the control arm bushing bracket off your MINI, you will need to either have a floor standing press or a tool like this to press the old bushings out of the housings. Without this, getting the old bushings out will be a total nightmare, especially if your old bushings are dry, worn and nasty. Some people burn them out which is a big mess. Applicable to R50, R52, R53, R55 and R56 chassis Packaged in molded plastic carrying / storage case. Operating instructions included.
Material: Black oxide coated steel
A few notes to consider:
1 - Please make sure to grease the threads with a moly based grease ... running these dry will ensure rapid failure.
2 - No impact wrenches ... they unnecessarily load the threads.
3 - Press tools in general are a tricky breed as they require some level of skill or "feel" on the user's part. It is always possible to overload a press tool to the point of failure. The issue of skill arises because the mechanic must know when to stop ... simply put, there are some bushings that are so rusted-in-place that they will either have to be removed using a shop press or burned out in place using an acetylene torch (not recommended). These are typically cars that are located in east-coast or midwest states that use lots of salt in the winter.
