Out Motoring Coilovers

When it was the right time for Out Motoring to offer custom Coilovers for the MINI, there was no way we were going to do it alone and we were NOT going to private label something from China like so many of the other companies on the market. If we could not bring a product worth owning and worth using we would not going to put our name on it or offer it to our customers.

So, here is what we consider the best coilover kit in the price range for the MINI. There is too much junk on the market and too many ill fitting and poorly made products on the market so we chose to work with the best name in the industry. KONI has the best name in the suspension and racing industry. Most of the junk on the market is a knock off in some way of what KONI has developed over their numerous years of suspension development. This set of coilovers is based on the KONI timeless 'yellow' shock and is modified so it can make use of the nearly endless list of 2.5" springs on the market. The smaller diameter springs allow racers to use wider tires, a larger range of offsets and a great deal more camber as needed. Adjustable ride height allows MINI owners to fine tune the car to their liking while the adjustable rebound options give even further control of performance on both the street and track. Front adjustability can be done from the opening in the shock tower using the KONI adjustment tool while the rear can only be adjusted while the shock is partially removed to access the top of the shock body.

After months of testing and nearly 1500 miles of real world driving along with many changes to spring rates and spring length, this is the result. It is quite livable on the street and makes for a great weekend racer setup. This kit carries the full KONI lifetime warranty so keep that in mind when researching coilover options. Also, should these ever need to be rebuilt, they can be by authorized KONI rebuilders like Truechoice Motorsports in Columbus Ohio. In fact, as one of the most respected suspension tuners in the world, we chose to work with them closely on the development of this kit.

You will need to reuse your stock front upper strut bushings with this kit OR use one of the better Camber plates on the market. The rear requires the reuse of the top hat and bushing. The rear concave metal washer will need to be drilled out by about 1/8" to allow the KONI shock to protrude through for proper assembly. Please note that depending on supply, a Eibach, HR or Hyerco spring will be used but will always have the specified spring rate and length while color may vary.

all current*, ** EXCEPT clubman (until we define new spring rates based on chassis weight, etc.)

* On 2007+ Hatchbacks, Clubmans and 09+ Convertibles you will need to puchase the lower Shock Bushing kit that will allow aftermarket shocks to properly seat on the lower swing arm/trailing arm. they are in our 07+ Suspension section.

** On 2007+ Hatchbacks, Clubmans and 09+ Convertibles the front sway bar end links will most likely need to be replaced with adjustable arms so the control arm does not interfere with the front sway bar while the suspension is fully compressed. I have found that using REAR Alta Adjustable Sway Bar End Links on the FRONT allows for as much adjustment as needed.

This applies to nearly ALL Gen 1 coilovers sets when used on 2007+ Hatchbacks and other Gen 2 cars.
