Want to lose nearly 13 pounds of unsprung weight? The Cooper S Factory Dual Mass Flywheel weighs in at nearly 27 lbs while this lightweight flywheel weighs in at 14.5 lbs. Imagine what reducing that much unsprung weight will for your MINI. SPEC billet aluminum flywheels are recommended as a replacement for OEM cast steel flywheels for use in street and racing applications.

The spec lightweight aluminum flywheel was designed and tuned specific to the MINI engine, torque values, weight and HP. Best when used with a upgraded Spec clutch, the insall time is likely going to fairly high, so while you've got the car apart, it would be a good idea to do the clutch upgrade at the same time. By decreasing unspung weight, like wheels and tires, a lightweight flywheel can actually free up horse power that was being robbed by heavy flywheels and tire/wheel combinations. When going to a lighter flywheel, expect throttle response to be quicker and revs to raise a bit quicker, also there may be a slight increase in engine noise as well as slight drop in RPM's between gears due to the rotational mass being lower. SPEC billet aluminum flywheels are also CNC machined and exceed SFI standards for high stress racing applications. These units are recommended for highly modified street or racing vehicles, and for mildly modified street cars that can benefit from reduced rotating mass without the loss of daily drivability.

The body of the flywheel is made of tempered aluminum for ultimate strength and lightest possible weight. The 1/4 inch thick friction plate is a 1050 high carbon alloy, for incredible durability with any friction disc material, even iron. The plates are secured to the body by stainless steel rivets. The ring gears are pressed on and secured with grade 10 fasteners.

The Spec Aluminum Flywheel is one of the many MINI Cooper Parts and Accessories that we carry and will fit the following MINI Cooper Models and Years:

Installed short shifter kit with no problems except kit did not come with 'o' ring for shifter shaft. Factory 'o' ring was too larger off of OEM shift lever. I would also recommend some good out door adhesive to reinstall dust cover on shift box, because some of the locking tabs may break off when removing. And with this short shifter kit there is no need to modify shifter box as some other products require you to leave dust cover off or purchase a drop cover to accommodate the longer shift lever. Thank you so much Out Motoring for another great product and customer service, Jon

Absolutely fantastic service provided by not only sourcing a part that’s obsolete in Europe, but shipping across the pond to the UK.
Thank you so much guys, my JCW R52 restoration is back on track.

Sku: NM.881201B, I bought these rims sometime in 2018, I drive the car only on warm sunny summer days, it doesn’t see rain or snow. That said.. last week my TPMS light came on, my husband took the wheel off and the rim had a 2.5” split in it. Not from hitting anything, it looks like a stress fracture. I’m not sure what caused this or why, just want to say be careful and beware as I’m sure it could be a hazard at certain speeds.
