Convertible Top Side Hinge Point Repair Panel

On the left and right side of the R52 and other MINI Convertible models is a oddly shaped plastic insert that is sewn to the convertible top material and has a metal insert which breaks. When it snaps the top will be slightly saggy in that area and water will come in. From what we can tell that 12x2" part is not sold separately so we traced the factory part and had is laser cut. We recommend removing the old part entirely OR removing the mid section where the hole is so that when this new part is overlayed and glued into place it does not end up too thick as that little clip has to clip onto the metal shaft protruding from the outer fender.

When we tested this out AND left the old black plastic mostly in place it was VERY hard to get that spring clip back over the metal post but it can be done, however it's very hard to reach back there and get pressure to that clip into place. But if you remove the old plastic there's no where to glue the new part to. We opted to glue the new part to the old one and used clamps while it dried and you can use the upper edge and outer edges of the old part as a reference for what angle to glue it into place at. As needed if it's off you can also trim the inner hole outward to line up with the metal post on the outer fender.
